About William Schlachter
In long-term care since 1978, I started as a part-time provider and then assumed other roles, such as,
full-time dispensing pharmacist, General Manager for a large portion of territory in the state of
Pennsylvania, and consultant pharmacist. The latter I have performed most of the time while functioning in other positions.
Since 1991, I have exclusivly been a consultant pharmacist.
I am the owner of BGS Consulting, which is a company involved in long-term care pharmacy consulting. My own
consulting philosophy is resident-centered management of medication-related problems. I strive to ensure the resident's
therapy is appropriate, most effective, safest possible and used correctly. Being proactive, I identify, resolve and prevent medication-related
problems for our residents.
I have been a member of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists since 1986 and a Fellow of that organization since 1988. More recently, (1998) I have attained the level of consultant pharmacist designated as Certified Geriatric Pharmacist. At this time,
the CGP is the highest level of educational distinction for a consultant pharmacist. There are currently only, approximately, one-thousand CGP pharmacists
in the country. It signifies a greater commitment to the best pharmaceutical care I can provide to the residents of my facilites as part of the health-care team.
